Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm  (Special Edit) [ZSHARE] [YSI]

Im going through the process of some of my vinyl to mp3 and Aiff files as i rarely get to use records playing out any more. I have to say the process of flicking through dusty records is still so much more satisfying than buying music online. I’ve been reminded that there’s so many tracks and mixes you just can’t get online or on CD. A case in point in Serge Santiago’s fantastic coloured edit series.

Most re-edits aren’t available on CD or download for legal reasons so if your like me, almost exclusively download based then your missing out on a lot of great music.  Im also reminded of a not too distant time when music as a physical entity was far more valuable than it has now become. I’d happily walk into a store and leave with one or two records having spent close 30eu (which would get you 15 - 20 tracks on download), yet there was something a little more precious about this process. The feeling of wanting to get home and play them and see what tracks mix well with them. A feeling that you were almost buying into something. Those days are long gone now and the rate at which i now delete unneeded music from my hard disk only helps to confirm the impact of switching to a less precious format has had on music overall.

For those who also have left there vinyl days behind tham, above is a track off the ‘red’ Serge 12’s, keep an eye on the blog for a lot more uploads of rare tracks as I continue digitizing my music.
