Prince, a future’s past

Prince
Prince - The Future (12 inch Mix) [ZSHARE] [YSI]

I have to admit growing up I was never a big Prince fan, yet when the oppourtunity to see him play arrived I forked out 50eu (a lot of money for a concert ticket in olden times) to see him play in Dublin’s Point Theatre in, i believe 1999 before it was gutted and became the corporate equivalent of the Death Star now known as The Point Village. I think at the time I was going through a phase of trying to see all the greats (having already seen Brian Wilson perform Pet Sounds) I’m still waiting to see AC/DC and Depeche Mode.

I had a fantastic night and while never a fan of his poppier stuff like Rasberet Beret and Purple Rain, some of the tracks i’d not been exposed to before like Pop Life completely sold me, I’d happily pay 100eu to see him today (excluding booking fee).

This track is an example of one of Prince’s innumerable hidden gems. With its relentless wobbly beat and a more understated vocal than usual, It sounds like he’s hardly even trying yet the countless bands who have tried and failed to replicate his sound proves how unique he is as an artist.  it originally appeared on the 1989 Batman soundtrack which never really got the attention it deserved (bar the single Batdance) Probably as most of the tracks were hidden under explosions and car screeches in the cinema!

This version is the relatively rare 12 inch version.
